Drill through behaviour online vs offline

I have a source report with a list column setup for drill through into a second report, passing a column's value as a parameter into the target report. Both the source and the target reports are active reports.

The drill through is setup to open in a new window. When I've run the source report online straight from out of Report Studio and click the link, that works fine - browser opens a new tab and then runs the target report in the new tab.
However, when the source report is executed in background, delivered via eMail, and then opened from that attachment, clicking the drill through link will result in this odd behaviour:

- browser opens a new tab
- browser ignores that new tab and opens the target report in the tab which previously had the source report
- once the target report has finished running, browser opens *a second* new tab, displays target report in that, and requests a tab close for the inital tab

Is there any way to fix that? I don't really mind the two new tabs, but I do mind the source report no longer being open once I click a link.
