Hi all,

Does anyone know where the default blank template is located? I want to remove it but alternatively maybe someone knows how to specify which template is selected by default when a user begins to create a new report?

Thanks,
Jeff

Hi,

If things are working properly, you should have a collection of templates for both active and non-active reports visible when you choose the New Report option. These live in a folder called Templates in the root of the Team Content area. If you are not seeing these, but rather the old Report Studio dialog (that also insists you choose a package), it means you missed a post-install step with Cognos Analytics, where you import the Templates deployment archive.

Cheers!

Thanks, I have the static and active templates but in that folder there are no entries for the blank templates.

I looked at this article which describes adding icons in a subfoler of webcontent and thought there might be file(s) on the server for the blank templates.

Hi,

I just looked, and there is a template called "Blank" and one called "Blank active report"

Do you see this dialog when creating a new report?

Cheers!

Yup, that's what I have too.

I also found out that these templates are stored at: <installation location>\webcontent\bi\pat\images\templateReports. I see the blank template there but when I've renamed it (to hide it) and restarted the service I still see it just like in your screenshot above - and the blank template still works too.

If you log in to the portal and navigate to the Templates folder, are you saying you don't see it in there? If you do, what happens if you move it out of that folder? Can you still see the option to use that template when you create a new report?

Sorry, in the Cognos template selection window the template still appears even after I physically rename the .svg file on the server and reboot.

I have never seen it in the Team content -> templates folder but all the other templates from the samples are there.

Hi,

The templates you see when you choose the New Report option are the ones in the Templates folder in Team Content in the portal. If you move the Blank template out of that folder, that should be all you need to do? If you definitely don't see it in that folder, there's something very odd going on. Is it possible it's marked as hidden? What happens if you select the option to view hidden content in the portal?

Thanks, I "resolved" the issue.

It wasn't hidden but a while ago I had deleted the blank template but it still shows up when creating a new report.

What I did to fix my problem was to go to my dev environment and import the blank template and put it back. I tried setting permissions to deny for all users and hiding it in an attempt to hide it but that generates javascript errors when you try to create a new report and the template page doesn't render at all so it's essential to the application.

So there doesn't appear to be a way to change the default template or the order they appear in.

Hi,

You should see a deployment called Templates.zip in the Deployment folder within your install location? This is where you can install the templates from.

Cheers!
