Hi,

I am new to cognos and I am creating report using search and select prompt. In select and search the default search limit was 5000 , when I tried to select all the 5000 records and run the report I was getting timeout error .

Now I have limited the search to 100 while running the report by selecting 100 values it is working fine but , how can i get next 100 records in the select and search prompt as there are 160000 records. Is there any way to get next 100 records in the select prompt.

Thanks,

Hi,
Select and search prompts are not meant for searching 100's of records and it is a waste of time searching.
Do you have to run the report for all the 160000 values?
Is the report based on relational or Dimensional data?
If relational can the column that is feeding the prompt be grouped based on any other column?
If the user wants to run the report for 100 values at a time, create a data item with running-count in the same query for the data item you are using in the prompt and use a value prompt or text box prompt to pass the running-count and you van filter the search prompt query.
Try and let us know if any of these suggestions are of help or not.
Good luck

Thank you for the quick response.

Let me explain you in brief, I have a 4 fields type, status, date range and service request number. For type and status I have given value prompt and I have cascaded these 2 prompts, when I enter type based on that status will display based on status, Service request number will display.when I give % I will get first 100 Service request number as I have limited the search to 100 and there are around 160000 records for that particular parameters given . so my client wants me to put count of SR's returned(xxx SR's returned  or, even better, xxx of yyyy total SR's returned (so the user will know how many instances of the report they will have to run). For my inputs there are 160000 records are there in that i have displayed 100 records and I want to display the next 100 records.
we don't have any other unique field so I have made Service Request number as mandatory using that only report is running quickly.

Please help me to achieve this .
