hi all,

earlier we were using v.10 Cognos. There we had only installed cognos transformer client (no powerplay server). We were able to see powerplay tab under cognos administration.

Now we moved to v.11 (v.11.0.6). Post installation, we noticed that powerplay tab is not showing up and installing just transformer client (similar  way we had one for v.10), cubes were not working.I was able to create and publish cube on server but unable to view any cubes publish through powerplay studio.

Someone told us to installed powerplay server , so we did that. Now we seeing powerplay icon under administration which is throwing back to back pop-up error (attached is icon). We did setup as per ibm document and configuration and services were also fine.

My doubt:
Why we need to install powerplay server , is it something required mandatory from V11.If yes what server is giving advantage.?

Hi,

Nope. That's absolutely impossible. The ONLY way you would ever see the PowerPlay tab under Cognos Administration (plus PowerPlay Studio in the Launch menu) is if you had installed the PowerPlay Server install. It's not part of the core BI install, and never has been.

I'd expect this, if you haven't installed the PowerPlay Server component.

Did you use the instructions at http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21987412

You need to install PowerPlay Server to allow use of PowerPlay Studio and it's reports. Any content authored through PowerPlay Studio will not be available to you otherwise. The underlying cubes are accessible as a data source in their own right and can be used in non-PowerPlay Studio reports, but that won't help you with your PowerPlay Studio content.

Cheers!

Hi MFGF, Thanks for prompt reply as always. We followed the instructions as mentioned in doc. Even when we re-start the powerplay server, it went fine (all green tick).

Now once we open the powerplay tab, i am seeing below error pop-up(s) . clicking once will show another etc..attaching it for review

Any idea on this, what is missing etc.

i got the error fixed by Change Product language of Cognos Analytics to english (under my preferences).

Can we set default product language to english so that we dont need to make this change at login level.
