Running report in the background gives XQE-GEN-0018

Cognos 10.2.1 FP5 (on which I have admin rights)

My problem concerns Run with options -> Run in the background. I have used this successfully many times in the past. But since yesterday, at the moment when I hit the Run button, instead of getting the prompt page, I get the error XQE-GEN-0018 Query Service internal error has occurred, please see the log for details.

Looking in cogserver.log yesterday, I saw, just after the XQE-GEN-0018, "Warning           secure error - did not find userCapabilities". This made me think that I needed to renew my credentials. As it turned out, I was prompted to create my credentials, not sure why...

Long story short, having created my credentials, closed session, cleared cache and deleted cookies, I continue to get the same error, and am still unable to run a report in the background. Jobs however run normally.

I've never seen this before. Does anyone have an idea what could be causing this?

Thx, Michael

Hi Michael,

I'm assuming if you run the report interactively instead of batch, it works. Is that correct? Do you have any special server setup where the report service and batch report service are enabled in different places? Just want to know if the report still works without using run with options, as that could change the direction of our troubleshooting.

Do you see a record of the error in ../logs/XQE/?

Could you clear/backup the contents of your logs folder and re-produce the error? I would be interested in verifying that the userCapabilities error is related.

I think you'll likely need more verbose logging to get to the bottom of this, perhaps IPF XQE or IPF RSVP traces.

Hi Jay,

In fact this problem went away, not on the second day, but some time over the weekend, and since then I haven't had any problems.

This morning, I thought about posting back here with an update, but then I said to myself "Nobody is going to go through unanswered posts from 5 days ago!", so being rather busy, I didn't bother :-[

I should remember that there are some altruistic souls here who indeed do just that!

Yes, I was able to run reports interactively and in batch. It was only Run with Options - Advanced Options - Run in Background which was failing.

I've taken a look in ../logs/XQE/?, both in the .xml file and the log.001 file, but there is nothing related to my errors on the 22nd & 23rd Sept.

I guess we'll have to leave it there.

Many thanks for looking into my problem!

Best regards
Michael

Hah! Those are my favorite kind of problems :) I typically try to look for unanswered posts. Should've paid attention to the date  :-[

Glad it's working now!

Cheers,
Jay

the File System was full on server and created some space and the issue got fixed.

when it is full, it will not even create the log files and cannot execute the Queries.
