Hello guys !

I'm using Cognos for one years now and i have a hard time trying to change several of my reports (more than 300).

Here is the situation : We change our data source in Septembre. So i want to add to all my reports a header saying somethig like "Information from those reports are not up to date and only provide information before mm/dd/yyyy".

I want to prepare this header now.

I want to do it in a separate template.

I want to add it in all my reports.

I want it to be invisible until the famous date.

Of course, as the world is as it is, this date could change at the last moment... That is why I want the variable or test "visible or not" to be made on the template, not in the report. So in case of any evolution of the date, i will just have to change it once (no, i don't want to change 350 reports at the last moment because the guys in charge of the change have fucked up...).

Anyway... I have tried to make variables on my template, but the report don't access them. I did not found any way to have the report inherit of them.

I have tried to set the "Conditionnal Style". I have set a condition with the Today() function and set it to Visible, and then of course the unverified case to "unvisible"... And it does nothing. the report just seem to ignore the style. When i launch my template, it appears according to the date or not. When i include the template in a report, it does not work anymore...

Help will be appreciated :)

Sounds like you need a Layout Component Reference. In your source report you could leave it as Null or '', but when the glorious day comes that you want the text to change you just alter in the source and it should wash through to all the reports with that Layout Component Reference

Hello BigChris,

Yes, my Template is imported in my reports through a Layout Component Reference.

Otherwise, i could not have imported it...

But it changed nothing. It's like that from the beginning and the situation is as described : the template variables are impossible to see from the reports, and the conditional style does not work either.

Or maybe i don't use it like i should ? What would you do with this component, then ? Something special ?

OK, apologies, i think i had misunderstood. English is not my language, so... I think i have missed the point.

I create on my Template report an empty bloc, and i import it like that in all my reports... And when the day comes i add to this empty component my true message.

Hmmm... It's not really what i want. It would work but i may not be here when the D day arrives. Better a solution with a variable and i prepare everything now, and it works when D Days comes.
