How to open file which is saved in a shared folder?

I have created a hyperlink for the files present in the shared folder we are not able to open /open in new tab the file when we click on the hyper link. But "save target as" is working and copy and paste the url in new tab is working.We used this in the hyper link
"\\xx.xx.xx.xxx\Vertica\Report_Template_11i.pdf"
and also we tried with "file://xx.xx.xx.xx/Vertica/Report_Template_11i.pdf"

what we need to do to open the file by clicking on the hyperlink.

please help

Hi,
I tried the hyperlink on a report page and I was able to open a PDF file that is on a shared drive. Try to create a hyperlink for the help documents that will be on the cognos server and see if that works. And also check the permissions on the shared drive.
