Ok so thought I would take the plunge on my development environemt and install 11.0.6 over my 11.0.5 environment....

Oh dear.....

My 11.0. environment has been upgraded from the initial release to 11.0.5 with little issue. Its been configured to have a SQL database content store and is using Active directory for authentication.

So I run the installation and point it at the same location. It does its stuff but then I now open Cognos config I'm missing any reference to the content store and the authentication sources. Its as though its installed a standalone  instance.

Anyone else tried it yet and encountered any similar issues?

I still have my content store and cogstartup so can reinstall with 11.05 but its a little odd.

Thanks

Same issue here. No unsolvable issues upgrading from 11.0.3 to 11.0.4 to 11.0.5

SSO configured with SQL server. All good until 11.0.5 to 11.0.6

Error is unable to connect to the content store.

SQL server is using the correct port, i can connect to sql server and run queries on the tables within the content store. Did a reinstall just now and same issue.

No obvious fix. No google fixes yet either.

Waiting on our resident sql server expert to come into the office. Will update if I find a fix.

--Addition
I generally go into \\Program Files\ibm\cognos\analytics\bin64 and run the cogconfigw.exe from there. When i started it up again after the install all my configuration information was still there. Just couldn't start the service getting the unable to connect to the content store. I also have the audit database setup and it couldnt connect to that either. I deleted that out of CConfig and tried again but its unable to connect to SQL server for some reason. Still pending the Sql server expert.

cognosjon

well you are doing better than me as I don't even get to see the content store details, they've gone from the config file completely.

Something just feels a little odd. Time for a ticket with IBM I think.

What version of SQL server are you running GrumbleNuts

Ok got a fix for "unable to connect to the content store" for the 11.0.5 to 11.0.6 upgrade.

Looks like when 11.0.6 installs, it wipes out the steps you need to do for the 11.0.4 to 11.0.5 specifically the step below

https://www.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/en/SSEP7J_11.0.0/com.ibm.swg.ba.cognos.inst_cr_winux.doc/t_MSdriver_SSLconfig.html
more detail
https://www.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/en/SSEP7J_11.0.0/com.ibm.swg.ba.cognos.bi_install_faq.doc/c_inst_crit_config.html

There was a newer version the  sqljdbc42 in the drivers directory. I renamed that to OLD and put in the previous one i downloaded for the 04 to 05 upgrade.

All working now. Cognos has restarted. Any more issues and I would suggest going through the previous steps from the above second link to see if that fixes your issues.

Addition:
Microsoft SQL Server 2014 (SP2) (KB3171021) - 12.0.5000.0 (X64)   Jun 17 2016 19:14:09   Copyright (c) Microsoft Corporation  Developer Edition (64-bit) on Windows NT 6.3 <X64> (Build 9600: ) (Hypervisor)

Glad you've resolved your issue, but that fix wont currently work for as I appear to have more fundamental issues in that the config file appears to have been overwritten with lots of defaults. Not all defaults as the service name has remained how I left it but other than that  :-\ :-\ :-\

I'll update when I get anywhere with it. Though its late now so will be tomorrow, Cheers

Some more notes. Looks like I had to go through most of the config changes Cognos recommends when upgrading (see previous links) from 11.0.3 through to 11.0.5. I lost single sign on due to the config files reverting back to pre 11.0.3.

But all working now. Playing around with TM1 in dashboards.

If you go to your <CA11>/configuration folder, you should see a bunch of cogstartups:

cogstartup_20170306093830.xml
cogstartup_20170306090427.xml

These are the backups of your edits. You can rename your backup to cogstartup.xml and re-open Cognos Configuration to load that specific configuration.

If you need to see any of the properties of your previous configurations (ie: passwords), you can export decrypt, and view decrypted contents of the XML file.

Another issue has now popped up with Framework Manager.

BMT-MD-0003 CCL-BIT-0031 The requestor cannot connect to the provider at the URL {server name removed}. Code: -2,113,929,210.
<errorDetail><errorCode>-2113929210</errorCode><errorMessage>CAM-CRP-0012 The cryptographic engine is not initialized.</errorMessage></errorDetail>

Looking into it, will post the cause and fix when I have found it.

TomCognos

Yup fixed. Framework manager has its own Cognos Configuration in its directories. Had to update the Gateway URI and Other URI settings. Even though its on the same server as the main Cognos installation.

hello,
There are issues/defects with 11.0.6
Extensions
Cognos URL not accessible through VPN
Hidden folders visible in Dashboards.

So far got those logged with IBM...

Hi,

Just to update and close off my thread.

Spent some time reviewing the upgrade with IBM Cognos Support and it was deemed a mystery by them too. The upgrade over the top of a custom install have basically upgraded 11.0.5 to a 11.0.6 report server only installation. No rhyme or reason as to why this had happened. Interestingly the cmplst file also only detailed the 11.0.6 install and components details of the upgrade.

Issue was resolved by uninstalling and then re-installing 11.0.6 over the same file locations. Recovered a saved Config file from 11.0.5 to save re-entering all details and started with no issues.
All logged by IBM support.

Cheers
