Creating a new active report, and trying to incorporate some interactivity between data drop down lists and pie charts.  When I select a pie chart, and go to the properties, I am unable to select or choose the Master Detail Relationships property.  Why am I unable to access this property?  Isn't this needed as part of the interactivity setup for active reports?

Hi,

Are you using a pie chart, or a pie visualization. There is a big difference.

Charts cannot be re-rendered on-the-fly within a rendered active report output, so you need to put them inside data decks, master/detail them to the data deck, and have your controls operate the data deck by selecting them.
Visualizations can be re-rendered on-the-fly within a rendered active report output, as the RAVE (or RAVE2) visualization engine is included within the rendered output. THis means you don't need to put them inside data decks, you don't need master/detail relationships, and your active report controls can operate as filters (ie filter rather than select) for your visualizations.

Cheers!

Thanks for the quick reply.  I am using a pie chart.  I have an active report with two blocks.  In the top block, I have placed a data drop down list object with the correct data item.  In the other block, I've placed a data deck, and dragged the same data item into it.  I then placed (I think) a pie chart in to the data deck, and added the appropriate data items for it.  At this point, if I select the pie chart object, and attempt to edit the master detail relationships property on it, I am unable to.  Nothing happens.  Am I missing something else here?  Thanks!

Hi,

I just tried it, and it works fine for me! Did you remember to drag the same data item into the query of the pie chart, too? Are you completely sure the pie chart is within the data card of the data deck? (you can switch to Page Structure view to make sure).

Cheers!

Looks like the chart was not in the correct location per the data deck/card.  That was it.  Thank you very much for the help!
