Line Visualization not Filtering

I have a Visualization that is having issues filtering a set of metrics correctly.

I have a union of 5 queries, normalized to show one metric per query and a new column called Metric with 'Metric A', 'Metric B', etc. and the data returns fine when viewing the tabular data.

I have one Fact value, Month-YY as Categories, and Facilities as the Series. There are other filters that work fine. If I try to put Metric as an extra category under series, the report fails to run, but when set under an extra category in Categories, it runs fine.

The issue is when I try to use a control to filter on the Metric column (other filters exist that work fine). If I select Metric A, it shows; however, if I select Metric B, it doesn't (verified that labels and column names match). If I remove Metric A and just have a union of Metric B, filtering on Metric B, it works fine.

What I am trying to avoid is having a visualization for each metric as it raises the .MHT size to 35mb and becomes onerous to load and email.

Also, I'm on 10.2.1.

Update:

Found the issue. When using a UNION for the metric names, extra spaces are being added to the output and are not selectable. More spaces are added when the length() of the metric increases too.

Not sure what the underlying issue is, but h3ere are the tentative solutions:

Change all metric connections to one or two character strings.
View Tabular output for metrics and copy names as they appear (recommend copying to another RS window as Active Reports don't allow Excel tabular review)
