Two Data Items on the Left Edge of the Crosstab Cross by One Top Edge

Hi guys, Good Morning, :D :D

I have to develop a Crosstab that has not only one but two values on the left edge of the Crosstab.
See the mockup I have attached.

The questions is that when I drop the second data item on the left edge in front of the first data
item, will it automatically calculate the COUNTS (Measure) based on the first and second data items?

When I drop the COLOR on the Left Edge, the values of the CAR COUNTS are not changing.

I know this might be a weird question to ask but when I try reproducing it in my environment, it is
not convincing me that is working. Is there more to it?

Thanks for your time.

Hi,

I always wondered - what's the bold text all about in your posts? :)

Anyway...

It looks to me like the data you have shows all 4cyl vehicles are blue, all 6cyl vehicles are red and all 8cyl vehicles are green? If you nest row headings in a crosstab you should get the intersections of the nested headings - ie if 4cyl vehicles were available in all three colours, you'd see all three nested below 4cyl

Cheers!

I bold the words to show the important notes. I know.. It's kind of crazy! :D :D
Ok, so based on what you are saying, after dropping the COLOR, I should get
what the attachment shows. Right? That is if the Color Values of course are part
of the Fact table where the Measure is generated. Correct?

Hi,

Yep - you should get the results in this latest mockup. You can try this with the sample data - create a crosstab with Product Line and Order Method as nested row headings and you'll see how it works.

The Colours definitely shouldn't be in the fact table, though. They are descriptive, so they belong in a dimension table, which links to the fact table :)

Cheers!

Yes, I'm glad you mentioned that. I have the Dimension table joined to the Fact table based on some color code.
Thanks for your time. It's nice to check facts with an experience individual. :) :)
