Hi all,

we're planning a 11.0.5 installation and for Contentstore Database customer wants to use a existing Oracle 12c Database. They wonder if they can use the existing Database with other data in it and just create a new schema and user. Or do they need to setup a complete new and empty Database just for the Contentstore?

Hi

We will have two options.

Option 1- If total no.of. reports are less (~4K). Lets do folder/datasource sigons/permissions export and import
Option 2 - DBA can take backup of the existing database and can import to Oracle 12c.

You are starting fresh installation, Option 2 is not good some scenarios, Some values still may impact the brand new environment. Please do the impact analysis on if they are any saved report outputs in run history or my folder content etc...

Lets use Option 1. Start install with empty repository and then import from lower version.

Thanks,

Erm,

not talking about an upgrade or something else.

The question is: Could an existing Oracle Database (with some stuff in it, NO Cognos-related stuff, just other things...) be used for a Cognos Content Store? If not, they would have to set up a complete new Oracle Database installation...

I guess it's not  recommended by IBM...but it's totally possible and working for us.

At some point ressources ar not unlimited and using the same database with schema is a way for splitting, compartmentalizing application. But avoid putting the Content Store schema in the same database hsting your ERP or Datawarehouse.

Don't forget to check your oracle licence to be sure you have the right to di this it's not that obvious according to your type of database licensing.

HI Icetea,

Its not suggestible to reuse existing content store for C11 as there are lot of changes between C10 and C11. More content store tables might have added or  changed.its always good to have new DB as content store and configure C11 .Then you can deploy your content from C10 to C11. if your not sure about all configurations details then better to go for same DB.

I would suggest an empty Database just for the content store.
