Hi Gurus,

I am well aware that we need to stop the Cognos services and then delete these files (and not the Folder) and then start the services to get back some space.
However, I was wondering what  would be the impact on the environment/reports if the same was deleted without stopping the services.

Hi,

You can't delete RT model files that are currently in use - the Cognos service is holding them open, so the OS won't delete them.

If you are on Unix you probably can delete..  but not the greatest idea with services running... You may see reports fail.

Isn't the safe way to use rm rather than rm -f? If you use rm, the OS shouldn't delete the file if it is in use?

I have done it before in test environments on Unix by going into the directory and just doing RM * extension. But, generally speaking, I think that since you cannot tell which run time model belongs to which package the best approach is to shut down services. But if you are ok with minor user interruption then it should be fine..

The run time models will be recreated the next time the package is used..

@MFGF we can delete these files in Linux with rm while Cognos services are running . I have done it in test server.
