Deleted Content Still Appears in Folders and Search

Hi folks,

This is all kinds of crazy, but I need your help.

My client needs to do a very quick demo of 11.0.0 (that's what's on the server and that's what we must use for now). I can't setup a web server as the server has IIS 6.0 and that doesn't have URL rewrites, so I went with the quick install option for now with anonymous access.

The only issue I'm running into is that deleted content still appears in folders & search for a long time. If you click on the file you will get an error because it doesn't exist, but it seems to be cached somewhere.

Has anyone experienced this before?

Thanks,
Jay

I saw a few flaky pieces in the GA release, including deleted content still being visible and newly-uploaded content not being visible. Try clearing your browser cache to see if it makes a difference. I know it's not an option here, but moving to a later release would be very wise :)

Cheers!

Thanks MF!

Wasn't a browser caching issue unfortunately. This whole request has been a little crazy, including the inability to install 11.0.4... I won't even get into the server specs I've been provided. Demo is Monday  :'(.

And to make matters worse, they need this to compare to Tableau. Should be fun  :o

A real shame you can't get R4 in that case! Never mind - Tableau still don't have a good story for enterprise reporting or trusted, governed data. One of their shiny new innovations they are shouting from the rooftops about is the ability to join tables in different databases. Woo. Yay. Cognos has been doing this for, um, almost a decade and a half. You can absolutely nail them on data governance, pixel-perfect reporting, ability to utilise the data in-place (rather than having to extract it), scheduling and automated delivery, event management, in fact everything you need to put your data discovery insights into production in a robust way. If you can weave Watson Analytics into your story you can also nail them on biased data discovery and reliance on individuals to ask the right questions.

Have fun wiping the floor with them :)

Cheers!

Are you in Sales, MFGF?   ;D

Tableau does have nice visualization. But in my opinion, it is not an enterprise reporting solution. So it depends on what they are looking for - unicorns and ponies, or a Clydesdale?   :)

FYI, it turned out to be an IE related defect :)

Would you like to be in the meeting? Hah  ;D Perfectly said. The data governance is a big issue, especially for this specific client. As soon as it was discussed there was an immediate understanding that this is not an enterprise tool of any kind. But you know how this works... executives see a flashy presentation and all of sudden they want to discuss options.

I'm in consulting, not sales, so this is a bit of a unique request from this client.

On a related note, I consult in Microstrategy occasionally, and have always felt that tool is way ahead of the others even though my biggest expertise are in Cognos. They've been releasing features 2-4 years before any of the other vendors.

Sales? An old grumpy technical Luddite like me? What a thought! :-)

Tableau offers fast time to insight. Then what? Fast stop (in my opinion). What can you do with your Tableau insights? Rely on someone to manually run a dashboard every day and email out a screen print? Outstanding! :-) What happens if that muppet takes a holiday?

My advice is to look at the bigger picture and pick a solution that allows both data discovery and enterprise distribution all in one product...

Biased? Me? :-)
