I think there was a collective shudder...the equivalent of a disturbance in The Force...when that question hit the forum. :)

Oh, I just pasted the general consensus. ;) I know way too little about dimensional that I could informedly agree or disagree.

My experience with relational tells me that I want to think "this general no-no-dont-you-do-this attitude must be wrong if the report author knows what they're doing", but there may just be something about dimensional that I simply dont realize.

You can use a detail filter, however, using the dimensional filter function can filter the results faster.

To a greater or lesser extent you may be right, but there are so many pratfalls in using a detail filter that it's just not worth taking the risk. CognosPaul's post explains it far more eloquently than I ever could...it's definitely worth reading if you haven't already.

That's a much too sweeping comment I'm afraid - using a detail filter can very easily bring back unexpected, or just plain wrong, results.

BigChris - "a disturbance in the Force" - lol....  :D

The link to the cognoise topic on why not to do it has over 8000 views. With good reason. Just because you can doesn't mean you should. Read the links if you want to understand.

Don't use a detail filter on dimensional data. Ever.
