Hi,

I've a new Controller 10.2.1 installation done on a VM that runs on Windows Server 2012 which has been built for demo purpose.  All the configuration is done properly and everything seems to be working fine. Except that when I try to open Controller by clicking on 'Consolidate my financial information' option in cognos connection, I get an option to download and Run/install the CCR.exe file. When I try to install then the application carshes. The complete problem details from the Crash window is as below. Request for the thoughts on the resolution of this error. Herewith I'm attaching the relevant snapshot as well.

First of all, I suggest you read this to make sure you understand the difference between the Controller 'web client' and the 'local client': http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21371088
- In your scenario, you are trying to run the 'web client' from the Cognos Connection website.

Next, I understand why you want to do this (during a demo, it might look nice to launch Controller from a link on the Cognos Connection website) but the reality is:
(a) 99% of customers use the local client (not web client)
(b) it is so much easier to install the local client
(c) I personally recommend that all customers use the local client.

Next, there are a huge number of different reasons why the web client does not launch correctly. Here are a few examples (although there are more!):
http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21347103
http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21371427

However, by far the most important thing that you need to be aware is this one: http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21570390
- Specifically,  be aware that it is IMPOSSIBLE to get the Controller 'web client' to launch directly from the application server, without breaking other functionality
- Essentially, this is because the workaround to make the 32-bit client work on the 64-bit application server will break some of the Controller application server functionality.
=> Do not try to fix this problem, because you are wasting your time!

I cannot promise what will happen in the future, but my personal best guess is that a future version of Controller (with a 64-bit client) would solve this problem.
- However, I cannot tell you when this version will be released (and I cannot even promise that this version will still support the web client).

=> My advice to you is to:
1. Launch the 'local' client from directly on the Controller application server
2. To demonstrate the concept of launching the web client, I suggest that you run the Cognos Connection website from the host device (in other words, your Windows laptop - which is hosting the virtual machine demo server image).

Good luck,
- Richard.

Hi Richard,

Thank you very much for the detailed response and the advice. I completely agree with what you said.  Let me modify my plans accordingly.

Thanks again,
