Hi all,

Maybe someone can enlighten me:
In the installation guide  of Cube Designer the following is stated:
QuoteIBM Cognos Cube Designer must be installed on a computer where IBM Cognos Framework Manager modeling software is already installed.

Does this also mean it has to be installed in the same directory as Framework Manager?
I'd say no, because Framework Manager is 32-bit and Cube Designer is 64-bit....

But.....
I asked Cognos Support the same and they say:
Quote
Hello Addict,
the documentation is still correct.
For Cube Designer to work correctly, you need to install it to the same directory as the Framework Manager.
Which directory this is, is entirely up to you.
For instance, in my test environment I have installed both products to "E:\IBM\Cognos\1102_FM".
In that location you will find the Framework Manager executable (FM.exe) in the bin directory and the Cube Designer executable (FMDesigner.exe) in the bin64 directory.
....

But I also have MFGF stating:
QuoteWhat you're describing is exactly right for Cognos Analytics. Cube Designer is a 64-bit application now, and Framework Manager is a 32-bit application. They both install and run on 64-bit Windows. They need to be installed in different folders. This is exactly how things should be.

and this is exactly what I am expecting (and what I'm doing).... And who am I to doubt MFGF??

So is Cognos Support right or not  ???

You're confusing two things.  The first is the dependency on FM and the second is the directory where the two EXEs are and should be installed.

The now ended FM dependency
Cognos support is wrong.   It used to be the case that Cube Designer shared components with FM and needed to be installed with FM but that is no longer the case and has not been the case for several releases.

The EXE locations
When they were talking about installing it in the same location they were meaning the same root directory (i.e.  E:\IBM\Cognos\1102_FM in the case of the example).

Ahhh J my friend. After all these years you should know always to doubt everything I say! ;)

By some pure fluke of random chance in this case I was right. Sometimes I get lucky like this. Cognos Support are, um, slightly misinformed here. :)

Cheers!
