multiselect prompt report keeps running forever

Hello,

I am running a report with multiselect prompt with around 40 options within the prompt.
The report runs fine and for single selections and for few options selected together. But as soon as I exceed 20 options or 'Select all' , the report keeps on running(never ending run, doesn't finish).

I checked for any unnecessary query or data items, filters and couldn't find anything which could be removed from the report.

And as I said it works good for individual options selected and uptill 20 options.
So, there are no data issues too.

I am using cognos 10.2, DMR model.

Please help.

Thanks in advance

Lynn

How are you using the parameter that is fed by the prompt? Do you have a filter function on rows or columns or perhaps a slicer?

First of all thanks Lynn for replying. I thought nobody is going to respond to my question.

Yes, there is a slicer in the report.
There are three report pages having list reports.
1st page is fed by the main report query and the other report pages were fed by different queries having similar data items as the main query, just some extra filters added to each query.

Till now, I tried to use the concept of reference query thinking that at the back cognos would run just 1 main query and others will be fed by the main query. So, I tried to put all the required data items in 1 main query and taking reference of it for feeding other required queries. I am still working on it since getting some errors now.

I know it's hard for me explain the report specifications and for you to give any solution without looking at the report.

But if I was able to make myself clear, please let me know if my approach is Correct and suggest the best way to fix such an issue.

Thanks a lot again.

Is my question so weird that nobody wants to respond?
I apologize if I am still not able to make myself clear.
Please let me know what other information is needed.

I am done using the ref query concept but still the problem remains the same. It's running for few options selected in the prompt. As I increase the number of selections, it keeps on running forever.

Any help is appreciated.

Hi,

Bear in mind that DMR is a virtual concept - underneath your report is a generated SQL query which could potentially be spanning and aggregating many rows of data. The more you add to your report, the bigger and more complex the SQL gets.

Having said that, it's not clear how you are implementing your filter criteria. You mentioned a slicer, then "extra filters". Can you be specific about what these are and how they are defined?

MF.
Meep!
