Which cognos components on the WebSphere server

I've been given access to a server with WebSphere Application Server Network Deploy (WAS) installed on it and asked if it could use it with Cognos. I know that 10.2.2 uses WebSphere liberty profile  (WLP) and that it can use the full fat WAS, but what Cognos components do I need to install on the WAS box?

At present I have Cognos on two VM's, one with the application and content manager components, and one with the gateway. I know how to configure Cognos to use WAS,l I've read the Cognos documentation and I can set it up to run the portlets, but how to I set it up as the app server for Cognos?

The WAS is a way more powerful machine that the existing application and Content manager VM, but what Cognos components do I need to install on it? I cant find it anywhere in the documentation, it seems to assume that Cognos is installed on one machine, and the machine has WAS on it, is that the only way to use WAS and Cognos together?

Sorry if this sounds a bit whiny, I've been battling with the IBM site all day trying to find some useful information on this, and other non Cognos IBM products.

Thanks

Hi,

If you're planning on using WAS as the application server for Cognos to run within, this effectively means that the content manager processing and application server processing will run within WAS rather than within the default WLP. If you want content manager on a different server than application server processing, this means you'd need WAS on two servers - one for content manager and one for application server processing. Alternatively you could include content manager and application server processing in a single WAS instance on a single server.

Cheers!

Thanks MF I was beginning to think that it must be something like that.

Now I just have to decide if I want to use WAS to create a second app server and a standby content manager with the existing Cognos install on WLP. I suppose I need to find out what's on the WAS already and what spare capacity it has before I can make that decision, no point in having fail over if the fail over servers crash the moment you try and use them
