What is d2?

Do you mean DB2? Something else?

If you are using DB2, you can connect either using the DB2 native client, or via ODBC or via JDBC. If using the native client, you will need to have the client libraries installed on your Cognos server, and you will need to create a database alias locally that points to the database wherever it resides. If you are connecting via JDBC, you will need to copy the DB2 jar file and license file to the Drivers folder in your Cognos Analytics install location.

Hi Sujatha,

Please don't use the calendar as a means to post entries on Cognoise - it clutters up the calendar with annual reminders and it means the posts often get scattered across different boards - your last post here ended up in the Announcements section. I have merged both your threads into one, and moved it to the relevant board. To see how to post on Cognoise, please read the FAQs post below - FAQ #3 is what you're looking for:

Hi,

What do you mean by a "Pro cognos version"? Can you explain?

Yes, you do need a license to install Cognos. At the very least you need an IBM Cognos Business Intelligence Analytics Administrator license - every instance requires at least one of these. Any other users would also require a license too - either this, or IBM Cognos Business Intelligence Analytics Explorer, or IBM Cognos Business Intelligence Analytics User. The licenses others require depend on the capabilities they require - if they need Framework Manager / Transformer etc, they would need to be Explorer licenses, otherwise User.

Cheers!

Oh - I see (I think). You're currently using the trial version on Analyticszone?

Yes - you can get your own version. IBM offer it as on-premise, cloud (software-as-a-service), or hybrid. You can buy direct from IBM or via an IBM business partner. It's not free, though :)

Yes thats right.. we are using trial version as of now.
Umm.. Ty so much for the info :)
Correct me if I am wrong.. That means we can install the pro cognos version in our system locally?

I have another question..

I am using schedule in the Dashboard, to run the report at given interval, and I can see the results as well..
But then when I connect to my mail box.. I don getta see the result.
Should I have to configure my mail box accordingly? or is it because of the trail version..

Please let me know.
Thanks

Hi,

Yes - you can download the installs once you have purchased your licenses, and set up your own local instance of Cognos Analytics - on a single server or split across multiple servers.

I don't think the trial version on Analyticszone is configured to use a mail server (I could be wrong, though). Assuming your schedule is set to run and email, that's all you should need to do if the config is done properly.

Hi,

It's not open source. IBM developers are the only people who work on the underlying code. It's available to all as a product, though, and it has a Software Development Kit too. This means you can make calls into the various services from your own code.

Wait! What? You're an IBMer? In that case you get free access to the software. You can either download the software and install it locally, or you can go to Concierge and provision an instance on there.

To get the software and install it locally, go to Software Sellers Workplace on w3 and select the Software Downloads link at the bottom of the page:

http://w3-03.ibm.com/software/spcn/index.html

To provision your own instance on Concierge, go to demo.ibmcloud.com and sign in with your IBM ID (not your Intranet ID - you need a separate IBM ID. If you don't have one you can sign up for one, then you need to link it to your intranet ID). Select the Platform named  'Cognos Analytics 11 (BA Enterprise 1.6)' - click on the > to expand the selection

Cheers!

Hi MF,

Mornings!

You mean to say, I don't have to get any License as such? I can directly install the Cognos Analytics in my system locally?
For IBMers its free of cost is it? We don't have to pay anything.. ??

Thanks,

Hi,

It's IBM software and you appear to be an IBM employee. I believe (but I could be mistaken) that you can get the software internally for you to use in customer demos or evaluations, or for self-education. I don't think you're allowed to use it for customer use or for sales fulfilment, or for any internal production use.

Take a look at the restrictions and usage clauses on the software downloads page. You should also probably check with your manager to make sure you are using it for a permitted use.

Cheers!

Yes I am an IBMer  :)

For now I am using the trail version to pull out the reports and dashboards and etc.
I want to do some live projects and project it in front of client. So that I can witness real features like data source connection, scheduling and etc..,
So for that I will have to work on Cognos Analytics rather than the trail version correct??

I do have cognos 10.2.2 installed in my system and we have license for that.. we work on that on a daily basis.

So, do I need to do the same stuff to get access - Cognos Analyitcs?  Hope its more clear now :)

Thanks,
Sujatha Patil

Hi,

This is a question for your manager, I think. It's not clear what "live projects" involves. Cognoise is an independent Cognos forum, so there's not really anyone on here with the authority to tell you what you can or can't do with IBM's software. Is there a reason you're asking questions like this on a public external forum rather than internally?

Hi,

The answer is I believe you can, yes. I'm not in a position to authorise it or to say definitively, though. It's certain that you can get the software without charge. What's not certain is whether you are entitled to use it for the purposes you have in mind. You'd need to check with your manager or with the pricing and licensing team in IBM for an authoritative answer. Basically you're asking a question involving IBM internal rules and regulations on an open, public forum hosted outside of IBM. You're not going to be able to get the answer to your question here for this one.

Cheers!

Hi,

It's a released product. It went GA on 22nd December 2015. The first fix pack for it has just been released also.

Have you looked on the Software Downloads page on Software Sellers Workplace? It's where you'd go to download any released IBM software available to you as an IBM employee. There's an external version of the downloads page accessible through Passport Advantage which customers and business partners use to obtain their entitled software. Both places link to the same downloads site though - and only released software is put up onto it. You wouldn't find it on that page if it was still in Beta.

Here's the offering announcement:

http://www-01.ibm.com/common/ssi/cgi-bin/ssialias?infotype=AN&subtype=CA&htmlfid=897/ENUS215-497&appname=USN

Please don't be offended by this observation, but seems a little odd that you (an IBM employee with access to the entire IBM intranet and to all other IBM employees via Blue Pages and SameTime) would ask this sort of question on a non-IBM site, hoping a non-IBM person would be able to answer? Can you explain your thinking? Have you looked on w3 for resources for Cognos Analytics? My secret IBM insider provided this link to an internal announcement about the launch of Cognos Analytics. Apparently you just go to w3 and type in Cognos Analytics as a search term:

https://w3-03.sso.ibm.com/marketing/mi/compdlib.nsf/weball/5A5FE13A73297E9A85257F31006860B7?OpenDocument&PD-REFERER=b01eisecproxy004&PD-ID=G8VJDRQZTmSltkk1cRJ9E0VVwO8dpK+xmWjHypsNMUcbLbdwerlw0KRetU1uG5wfSXSZ+z9VBGSweptXJrCGPVlw5O7MYOd3EcOO5ZWl7y5EWtVjIewU4wzjGPc+Q/LKZejKqJn1DmCiPcthOFi3vt24FE3eHXeV
