Understanding of Translation File in Cognos

I am writing here, because I didn't find the satisfying information about the Transtaltion File.
Does anyone know how work the Translation File in IBM Cognos BI?
Where are stored all translations form this file, and how it works? When the Cognos read all the translations, and from where?
I am just trying to understand all process associated to Translation File.

Hi,

A Translation File is simply a mechanism to allow you (the FM Modeller) to allocate the task of translating item names to another person in the organization. Assuming you add multiple languages to your model, each object then has a name for each selected language. The default value for each is the object name in the development language prefixed with the language code. For example if you have an item called "orange" in your development language, it will be called "(es) orange" in the Spanish language name (if you added Spanish as a language to your model).

If you have the time and the limitless willpower to do so, you could manually edit each different language name for each item in Framework Manager - but this would obviously tie up a great deal of your time, and you are (doubtless) a skilled and highly-paid worker, so it would not be best use of your time.

An alternative is to export a language file from FM with the development language and all other languages in it. Every name and description (and tool tip) will have an entry in the file for each language defined in the model. You can then give this file to a muppet in the organization - someone like me with fewer skills and a much smaller salary - and tell them to edit the file using Excel/Notepad/Some other editing application and using their favourite translation website or dictionary. They would find the correct foreign word for each term in each language and replace the default values in the file with the real terms - eg replacing "(es) orange" with "naranja". Once they had finished this delightful and rewarding task, they would return the file to you, and you would import it back into FM, translating from the default language to the other languages. This would then put those real terms in as the names in your model.
