Hello forum,

My company just purchase Cognos licenses for various products including Cognos BI 8 and Cognos Planning 8. My question is pretty simple. Should I install Cognos BI 8.2 and then Planning 8.2 or vise versa.

Installation well be done on brand new Windows Server 2003 R2 Enterprise running IIS6 and SQL Server 2005 Enterprise edition.

Thanks a lot ,

Bob

Hi,

Install the BI software first, then the planning software.

Thank you MF.

Do I need to configure Framework manager before installing Planning 8.2?

MF,

Do I need to install JAva on Windows 2003 server before installing BI and EP?

Thank you MF. Appreciate your help.
One last question, if I may.  Cognos offers several Planning downloads including Server type and Administrator. Which one should I install one the server?
What preparation on MS SQL Seerver 2005 should be done before installing BI and EP.

Thank you agan

Install both - Administrator provides client side items like Admin Console.

Create your databases and database accounts on SQL 2005 before you start (at a minimum, you need the content store)  Since it sounds like everything is on a single machine, you don't need to do any additional prep.  If the database is on a different server, make sure to install the database client tools on your Cognos server.

Also, I would recommend reading all installation documents prior to starting.  Information is sometimes scattered over several documents and not in a single location.

Thank you SomeClown. I installed BI 8.2 without any major difficulties. I've got two questions.

1.) What are the correct IE 6 settings ? When I bring up Cognos Connections page, it looks funky. I also get yellow icon "Error on page".

2) How do I add/remove users and set their access rights in Cognos?

Thank you,

Bob

1 - Don't know - I've never altered settings in IE except for security (putting the cognos sites in a trusted or intranet zones)

2 - Add a security source in Cognos Connection.  Add users and groups from the security source to Cognos groups and roles, if you want.  Assign users, groups, roles to application objects.  The actual steps are detailed in different Cognos documents (depending on which piece of software you are working with)
