I have a link to execute a Cognos report from a web page in excel format which works fine (I used the default action URL link found on the set properties page). I get the excel report window asking if I want to open or save, which is also fine, but I also get another browser window in the Cognos viewer that says "The webpage you are viewing is trying to close the tab. Do you want to close this tab?" Is there anyway I can suppress this window appearing? We want the user to only have the excel spreadsheet appear and the extra Windows Internet Explorer window is confusing for the user.

DJessey,
You could setup export by drill thru in the same report using output format as excel.
The  only issue here that will run report again and render to excel format without keeping the place where you were drilled up/down.

Keeping your approach.
About first window u'll be asked always (open/save) about second - didn't see this window before. What's the version Cognos/Office you use?

I have Cognos 8.3 and Excel 2007. I'm thinking this is a browser issue, not a Cognos one. The first window choosing to save or open Excel is fine, it's the browser asking that it's trying to close and do I want to that is the problem.

DJessey,
What's the browser version?
