Hi all,

I have got a requirement to create a special bar chart in Cognos report studio. I am wondering is it possible to creae the Attached report from Cognos report studio. I am using Cognos 10.2.2 with OLAP source

The difficulties are,
1. to have a line after the current month ( A red line after Oct-15)
2. To provide the numbers at the right side, the actual and budget. Budget is not used in the graph bars. Actual is used and it is split in to sales and pre-orders

Thank you in advance

Lynn

I don't really understand the time periods across the top. Is this a bullet chart of some sort? How does the time correspond to the percentages of sales/pre-orders? You need to first figure out which type of chart to start with.

On a regular bar chart you can use a category baseline for the red line. Here is a post with information that might be helpful: http://www.cognoise.com/index.php/topic,29843.0.html

Not sure about the numbers at the side but I'd try stacking those metrics on the series, again referring to a regular bar chart although I'm not entirely certain if that is what you need.

I would try making the overall report into a crosstab (or possibly a list) with a master detail relationship for just the chart. It will make multiple query calls that way with each line being a separate chart object, but as long as the report doesn't contain too many lines it might be reasonable. Then you can use the post Lynn suggested for the Category baseline. Even though each line will be a separate chart, it can be set up that the red lines will all form one straight line. You'll have to play with the padding and spacing on the chart object, but it can work.

Thank you Lynn and roryc,

I should have explained the chart a bit more :) my miss.

Lynn: The % is the % of Actual to Budget (45% in the first bar, which is 62.9/139.5) and 20% is the percentage of the Pre-orders against budget. The attached chart is created in Excel and we are asked to craete in Cognos. Thank you for the post about the red line. I was wrong to say about the numbers on the sides as they are actual sales and Budget values. I hope this makes more sense

Rory: I am not quite understood the suggestion , I will give a try and let you know how it goes
