Hi,

I have been trying to know the usage of Parameter maps and Session Parameters. I have read lot of definitions but not able to understand clearly. Pardon my understandability [emoji17] . Can any one please explain these a bit in detail with an example if possible?  I would really appreciate any help.

Thanks,
Pradeep

Check the last answer to this post for parameter maps:

Session parameter is like a variable which holds the value of the variable for the entire session (as long as you are logged on to Cognos).
Ex: You want to get the name of the user who ran the report. This is different than the person who made that report. So, if you presume
that multiple users might be running the same report then you might want to put the user name on the report so that it displays the namewhen the report is ran.
The session parameter is 'account.defautname' .

Thanks for the quick response and a simple way explaining. This really helped me understanding these things. I am about to start working on FM from now in my job and trying to understand how to
deal with data.

Thanks a ton again and really appreciate your help.
