Performance impact of an SSL Connection

Hey all,

A while ago we opened up an SSL port on our Cognos page to facilitate a third party software running reports on behalf of users and presenting the results to them. This solution is only being used by one department. This change has all been done on our development side, and before we move it to production, I had a few questions. By having the Cognos dispatcher listening on two different ports, will there be any noticeable impact on performance? Does this have any impact on stability of one of the two ports, or the system overall? Any suggested approaches to testing to see any impact? Are there any best practices we should follow?

Thanks,
Lucas

I found the information I was looking for from someone inside our company.

Thanks.

I've implemented a SSL facing cognos environment before and it's been running for over a year (heavily used) with no performance issues.

Just remember every environment is different so I suggest a dev or pre-production server with stress testing before it's deployed.

Thanks.
