Report Studio report and Framework Mgr test "out of sync"

Truly appreciate if someone can provide some tips!

1. Data source is a Oracle 11i with a created view to filter and keep only the records of the last reporting date (using the "MAX" function).
2. Cognos version is 10.2.2.
3. Framework Mgr testing came out fine with the latest date records only.
4. Reports from Report Studio showing records with a date a few days old (seems to be stuck with the date the package was created and not been updated).
5. Am I missing a parameter to tell Report Studio/BI to update from Framework Mgr. on a on-demand basis?

Thank you!

Every time a change is made to Framework Manager, the package which contains that particular query subject needs to be published again otherwise the report will use the earlier package.

Hi CognosTechie,

Thanks for taking a look of this prob.!

My framework mgr. was not changed though, therefore I did not re-publish it and hoped it will work.  The only (data) change should remain in the back-end database where the ETL process brings in the new data (with a later "last record date") and that gets "populated" into the view we have designed.  As I have mentioned, when I ran the framework mgr. test, it worked fine to show the latest date and records.  The problem seems to be at the Report Studio end.

If the change is only at the DB level then the package does not need to be published again. Cognos does caching and the reports read from the cache a few times and then go to the DB. Maybe that's what is happening in your case.  If you are doing this in the DEV/Test environment then you can re-start the cognos service. That will clear the cache.

Thank you so much!  Restart Cognos service seems did the trick.  I will schedule a job and verify it tomorrow.  Also, do the same in the production env.

Coming back for more advice.  It did not work persistently  Summarizing the testing:

1.  Testing in Framework Mgr. does show updating date and data.  Data is collect up to that point.
2.  Republish the package does NOT refresh data in Report Studio, nor scheduled report.
3.  Restart Cognos service only refresh data ONCE.  Data continues to be incorrect afterwards.

Please help!

Learntocognos - Your point No 3 doesn't make any sense. What is meant by 'data incorrect' ? Does the report revert back to the old data (before re-starting the service ) or does the report continues to show the same data without getting refreshed with new data.  Are you sure you are doing all this in the same environment ? Open Cognos Configuration on the machine where you have Framework Manager and see where it is pointed to and then check the URL of the environment where your report is.

Do you mean, the first time your report runs after restarting the service you get the current data but, once additional data is added to the data base you don't get the new data?

Searching Cognoise for the term 'cache' might help you devise an approach to your data caching issue.

Here's some more things you might want to look at:

Sorry!  I was not clear about "incorrect data".

Yes, exactly, "the first time the report runs after restarting the service you get the current data but, once additional data is added to the data base you don't get the new data"

So far, based on your suggestion, my investigation shows:

Both my test and production servers has the xqe.securecache.config.xml-example files.  Since they still have the xml-example extension, that means the cache has never been refreshed even at a default value of 24 hours, correct?  That, would explain what I am experiencing right now.

Cognos does caching by default because normally the Data Warehouse is refreshed only once during the night so it will work for most people but in your case if the data gets refreshed during the day then you might want to disable the cache permanently. This is how to do it:

1.Rename the cognos_location/configuration/CQEConfig.xml.sample file to CQEConfig.xml.
2.Open the cognos_location/configuration/CQEConfig.xml in an editor.
3.Ensure that your editor supports saving files in UTF-8 format.
4.Find the queryReuse parameter and change the value to desired value, 5 is the default setting. To disable caching, set the value to 0
5.Save the CQEConfig.xml file.
6.Using Cognos Configuration, stop and then restart Cognos.

That being said, I don't know who the hell is giving me all those negative citizenship points.

LearnToCognos

Thanks to CognosTechie and Bus_pass_man!  I need to learn how to give positives citizenship.

I am trying cleaning cache by the configuration file and by a scheduled query service.  Should know if it works over the weekend.

CognosTechie, you have been a great help in solving my problem.  Sorry to hear about the negative citizenship!  You should keep up with your good work though.  There are people recognizing and appreciate your unselfish help, like me.   :)

Not me.

cognostechie, I could not find a way to trace back those negatives even in the admin screens (could be my ignorance). So, I am not sure why either, but I for one appreciate your level of participation here. Not to worry.

They accumulate if people press the "warn" link below your name - but I believe the system is anonymous. Look on the bright side - you have far more + votes than - :)

Meep!

All right MF and bdbits. Agree not to worry  :)
