Hello!

Currently I have several reports that I have written in Query Studio.  However, my manager announced that soon we are not going to have access to Query Studio anymore...it will just be Workplace Advanced and Report Studio.

Therefore, is there any way you can copy a report from Query Studio right into Workplace Advance and/or Report Studio...so that I don't have to rewrite it?

If so, how would I do that?

Thanks so much!

Hi,

Although IBM have announced plans to deprecate Query Studio and Analysis Studio, they are both still in the product for the time being (including the upcoming IBM Cognos Analytics release). You don't need to move off Query Studio imminently if it doesn't suit your business.

Having said that, any Query Studio report can be opened in Report Studio. Cognos Workspace Advanced is simply a different skin for Report Studio - both share the same XML report specification. If you use the 'more' option alongside your Query Studio report, you can choose to open it in Report Studio. Once you save it in Report Studio, you will then have the option to open it using Cognos Workspace Advanced too.

Just bear in mind that once you save a report from Report Studio, you cannot then subsequently open it in Query Studio. My advice is to copy all your QS reports before going though this process.

Cheers!

MF.

Hi MF!

Thank you so much for that extremely helpful information.

I will certainly make copies of my QS reports....before I open and save them in Report Studio.

Have a great day!!!!

I would caution using this process for Analysis Studio 'reports'. While it works, the resulting Report Studio report is *very* difficult to modify. They make use of RS dimensional reporting techniques I think most of us have never even looked for when writing reports. For AS reports, I would probably only do this as a stop-gap measure, and plan on rewriting them the next time you want to make a change.

Query Studio reports, as far as I recall, transfer to RS fine without the complications.

Should anyone choose to ignore bdbits' excellent advice and "convert" Analysis Studio reports into RS, there's this old IBM doc that describes the resulting report:

Good luck - you'll need it :)
