Cognos BI 10 Icons and Meanings

I'm looking for a list of all the Icons used within Cognos BI and their meanings.

Right now I'm specifically struggling with the blue Package Icons. I have two different blue icons:

  • Solid Blue
  • Blue with 3 small squares
What is the difference between these two blue package icons?
Where can I find a complete list?

Thanks,
Mike

Hi,

If you edit the properties of the object, there should be a "Type" property right at the top that tells you what type of object it is. If I was guessing, I'd plump for the solid blue being a regular package and the other being either a TM1 package or a Metrics package. It's not as easy as you'd think though - the icons have changed throughout various releases of Cognos 10. In 10.2.2, package folders are now a brown colour with what looks like string tied around, and TM1 packages are the same but with four small blue squares overlaid in the bottom right corner.

Cheers!

I don't have that version available at the moment but the solid Blue icon , if it has the shape of a folder, means it is package. The blue with 3 squares is probably a Page meaning a container which contains multiple objects such as multiple reports or reports and links etc. A Page can be used to make a Dashboard.

I tried doing the edit before creating this post and for both blue folder icons they both say package. What's even more odd is on the edit screen the blue 3-square icon show the stand solid blue icon. Go Figure! (Nice way of saying WTF!)

Can you post up the exact icons? If you have an account with imgbb.com you can upload the images to there and link to them in your post using IMG tags...

Allow me to assist :)

Here's the image you posted:

Let me do some digging and see if I can remember what the icon with three squares means. The blue folder icon is a "normal" package folder...

Cheers!

Ah! Aha! Are you by any chance using Cognos Express? The second icon appears to be an Advisor Package, and as far as I'm aware, Advisor was only ever part of the Express architecture.

I found it the hard way - I went to the images folder for Cognos Connection and looked manually through the icons until I found one that looked like yours :)

MF, Good Call... "You're the man". Thank you.  I don't believe we are using express but the vendor who supplied the packages just might be.

Can you point me to the path location of the images?

Got it...
