Hi,
using Cognos BI 10.2.1 Report Studio. I would like to flip text from horizontal to vertical orientation in columns inside crosstab object to preserve as much space as possible.

See  attachment print-screen.

BigChris

Click on the title for your columns, then in the Properties panel go to the Font & Text area and select Direction & Justification. Go to the Writing mode and select Top to Bottom, right to left

Thanks for help. I tested, but it looks like your suggested setting has no effect. Any idea?

Lynn

What output format are you trying to produce? I vaguely recall that the orientation works only in HTML but not other output types. I might be wrong or it may have changed since I last tried but something to check in any case.

I tried what Chris suggested and it works exactly right for me in HTML. I am on 10.2.2 but this functionality has been around for a long time so not sure what your issue is. Perhaps you should describe your layout and requirement in more detail? My test is a simple crosstab with one node on rows, one on columns with the text set to vertical and then one measure at the intersection.

Now I created new crosstab with exactly what you suggested, one member on rows and one member on columns and one measure in intersection. Clicked on column's member, did as BigChris suggested, and it looks like this setting does not have any effect.

Is there some additional setting that I must set like Positioning | Size & Overflow to set width to very small number or something to force it to flip a text? (by the way I have tried to set width to 10 px and this settings also has no effect)

BigChris

I've tried it with both the column heading and the row heading and it's worked fine for both of those.

Hi,
now I have recorded screencast and save it in gif file. Please see 10 second video what I did and to see this setting has no effect.

According to my previous post - see attached screencast - one possibility is it is a bug in Cognos 10.2.1 fixpack 6 I currently have installed. Do you think it is a bug or did I missed some setting?

Can someone please send me a print-screen of resulted report in Cognos Viewer. I may need this when reporting a PMR.

I have 10.2.1 Express and it works fine as shown in the attached over a relational package as well as over a dimensional package.

I also have 10.2.2 FP 2 and it works fine, appearing the same as in the attached.

I'm not sure if it is a bug or not. I've used this in the past over older versions and different data sources and not had an issue other than that it doesn't work in PDF.

Are you using a supported browser?

Are you using a supported browser?
That's it. I am using Firefox 24 ESR, also tested with Firefox 38 ESR both officially supported by Cognos BI. Non of them this orientation is working. But I executed report created in Internet Explorer 11 and it works fine. All browsers tested on Windows 7. So it looks like a bug...

Lynn, can you please write what is your browser and operating system name/version?

BigChris

Good catch Lynn! I get various things not working properly in anything other than Internet Explorer, so I use that all the time now.

Tried and faced many similar issues in non IE browsers even though it is mrentioned it is supported but some features does not work properly.

Cognos works best in IE. Microsoft rules sometime!!!
