Can I download a trial or evaluation version, complete with instructions how it can be installed properly?

I don't think IBM offer a trial version. Depending on what BI licenses you hold, you may already have entitlements to TM1 though? If you have a Forward Looking Analytics Architect license somewhere in your mix of BI licenses, this entitles you to download and install TM1 for use with BI - specifically to do scenario modelling.

Otherwise, try contacting your IBM account manager to see what they can do for you - they will sometimes provide temporary licenses if they seen an opportunity for TM1 in your business and you are evaluating it.
