Hello Everyone.

We have a US map build in Cognos that is using at two letter state abbreviation.  When hovering over the state, it show

Preferred Address State Providence = WY
Constituent Count = 355

We would like to change it to display the full state name.  However, because of a drill through action, we need to leave that state being passed as the parameter.  I am sure there is a simple way to change this, but I cannot seem to spot it.  Can someone direct me?

Thank you.

Hello all.  Does anyone have any suggestion for me on this.  Anyone done anything with adding HTML to maps in any way?

I have not used Congos maps for a while, but I remember they are pretty limited. I believe in order to display a different label than what is associated you need to set up aliases in the map itself. And I do not think the built-in maps have any aliases set up. But in any case I very much doubt there is any HTML solution.

If you really want to go all out, there is the RAVE engine where the angels fear to tread. There are rumors that the Cognos mapping could maybe someday be replaced with a RAVE-based solution, but as far as I know that is very unofficial and probably quite a ways off.

Thanks very much.  I was afraid there was not a good solution.  Sadness.

One thing I failed to mention is that you can integrate Cognos data with mapping services like Google, Bing, or OpenStreetMap. It is a little bit of javascript, but not too difficult. There is sample code out there. This is one example, there are others if you search the web a little bit.

The other thing you can do, if you have access to any mapping/GIS software is make your own maps and import them into Cognos. These then show up in your Report Studio just like any built-in maps. That is what we have done in a few cases here, and it is a bit of a picky process but does work once you get them imported.

I, too, wish built-in mapping was better but at least there are a few not-too-difficult ways to get some decent-looking maps outside of what comes with Cognos.
