Seperate Install required?

I was reading the installation guide and it says that the report server needs to be 64-bit only. I have Transformer cubes on my app server so the setting in Cognos Configuration is set to 32-bit so that it can work for 32-it as well as 64-bit. If the requirement for Cube Designer is that the configuration has to be set to 64-bit then does that mean that I would need a separate server for Cube Designer?

We currently run 32-bit Cognos report servers on 64-bit host OSes, due mainly to the same Transformer issue. We do have some DQM-enabled packages, which is required for dynamic cubes. I have only played a little with cube designer, but as I recall it read the DQM packages on our server.

Note that an option to a separate server is having another Cognos instance installed, and using package routing so the packages go to the right instance. So you can get 32-bit and 64-bit running together on a single server, but with multiple installs of Cognos. I think the documentation on that is in the install/admin guides.

There is a lot of confusion in the official documentation about the "need" for a 64 bit report service. It is not needed in general for any of DQM, DC, or DC designer. It may be needed in special circumstances, at which time you may need multiple servers, but the advice according to the DC product owner on the LinkedIn DC group is to leave it at 32 bit.

That's nice to know pumccg !

bdbits - That's a good suggestion of having multiple instances on the same server. Will keep that in mind , it might come in handy for other things too !
