Hi All,

So I have a Report Studio report with 7 Queries that feed 9 Charts and 1 List which are to be used as Workspace Widgets.  It is a relational source.

None of the queries are overly complex just basic measure and a few dimensions.

I also have another query _BusinessInsight_ to facilitate the filtering of the widgets.  All data items exist in all queries.

When I pull the widgets into workspace it is fine however when I drag in a filter from the toolbox and Workspace starts loading the prompts etc it completes grinds Cognos to a halt, to the point where it is unusable for hours unless we restart the services.

I have tried splitting my one big widget source report into several reports but this made no difference.

Has anyone else had similar issues in Workspace?

Any ideas what could be causing it?

Cheers,
AM

Hi Andy,

Are any of your filter values dates or datetimes, by any chance?

We have a field from a date dimension but it is not a date field, it is just a char field that looks like 2014/Apr, 2014/May etc.

Should have added we are on Cognos 10.2.1 FP5 with SQL DB.

Hmmm. Ok - it isn't that, then.

MF,

Is there a limit or recommended amount of data items you should have in your _BusinessInsight_ query?

I have 8/9 ... could this be the problem?

Good question! I honestly don't know, but my gut feel is that having 9 items in that query shouldn't be a problem. What might be more of a problem is the number of underlying rows required to be read to arrive at the distinct values each item resolves to. I assume it's having to fire off a "Select dictinct" under the covers to populate a Workspace filter with values - if there are billions of rows to hit it could take a while...

So in order to get Workspace filters to work we had to upgrade to FP8.

After installing this the filters started to work again.
