unable to copy detail filters since moving to cognos 10

I am guessing I am missing something, but since moving to cognos 10, ( currently experiencing it in 10.2.2 ), when I build a multi query report in Report Studio, I have always been able to copy and paste detail filters from one query to another.  Now I get the following message:

Unable to insert an object of type "Detail Filter" in the selected location.

I can copy the text from the filter and copy and paste that into a new filter, but a pain when needing to copy multiple filters at once, what am I missing here, I can't imagine that they got rid of that capability, as I use it all the time!

I'm in 10.2.1, and can copy detail filters without issue.  To clarify, you're copying this through the query window, after highlighting the filter(s), then right-clicking and pasting into the same window.

Are you using the same package or a different package between your queries?

wshall2

Yes, this is 2 queries in the same report same package, go to the Query1 from Query explorer, select the filter or filters, copy, (not opening the filter and selecting the text, just selecting the whole filter) then browse to Query2 and attempt to paste the filters and get the above mentioned message?  Is this perhaps a capability that can be toggled?  This is a hosted environment, so not sure if perhaps they have locked down the capability by accident? Did not experience this behavior with 8.4.1, will have to try a different environment to compare.

What web browser are you using? I´m not able to copy filters via Firefox or Chrome, but in IE it works.
Try IE and have a look at this pdf, http://www.purdue.edu/onepurdue/ESA/documents/copying_cognos_reports.pdf.

WSHALL2 - We just upgraded to 10.2.2 this weekend and I am experiencing the same (bad) behavior.  I know what they are trying to do.  They are trying to validate the filter with the data items in the query.  Super annoying when you don't really want to retrieve additional columns of data and just want to use Presentation layer data item references for your filters.  Not happy.

Hi All,

Did you find a solution for this problem? I am using 10.2.2 and facing the same problem. :(

Thanks,
mc

I have the same problem in 10.2.2 using IE. Not sure about other browsers.

The only work-around I can see is to open the filter, highlight the content and copy it, then go to the other query, drag in a filter from the toolbox and then paste in the text.

Really a nuisance.  :'(

Thanks Lynn.
I am doing the same at this moment..
I have tried using chrome but no luck.

What about copying the whole query so that the filters get copied with it and then delete all the columns from the new query and add the columns that you want?

mrcool

@cognostechie - Thank you so much..yes I have used that option too.. :)
Just now found that this issues is fixed in 10.2.2 FP3.

Cheers,
