Hi,

I'm wondering how other people pro-actively monitor the availability of there cognos service?

At the moment we use a system called nagios which runs a script every 10 mins that replicates opening a session on the reports server, logs on using a test account and then logs out again. If this is successful then we class the service as being up and available for use.

Does anybody know of any alternative methods of acheiving this type of unattended service availability monitoring?

you can use the cognos adminstration to monitor whether the tool is running or dead. go to cognos admin after getting to cognos connection under that check the system tab . under system you have various options to set logging levels for all the services, you may refer the (admin and security guide) for the same. I am a beginner at using cognos hope it works for you.

No, what Jonathan wants to do is NOT clicking around in the cognos web frontend to check if cognos is up and running. He wants to monitor the cognos system automatically.

@Jonathan: Cognos Suport recommends to monitor the cognos system more detailled with a JMX Connector & Client (Nagios-Plugin). Think that Google & Cognos Support Homepage gets some good matches for this search. Even not, get in touch with the supporters and feed them with "jmx". ;)

Good luck.

@ICEtea thanks for the info. i've had a search around but couldn't find anything relating to jmx + cognos on google, I think I'll open a request with support for more information
