Hi,
I am a new user to Cognos8 and am trying organize large amount of packages that are currently shown in Public Folders.  Can someone help me with the following:

1.  I have a portlet called, say, "Programs".  Can I move some of my packages from public folder to the "Programs" portlet?

2.  In "Public Folder", can I create folders and move some of the packages into these folders?

3.  Is there any better way to organize packages and folders in Cognos connection?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

I don't think there is a way to move the packages from Public to somewhere else.  I have heard with C8.3 that this functionality might be available.  We control what the users see by setting security at the package level as well as the folder level.  I would also be interested though if someone else knows if organizing the packages is possible.

Thanks
Jeff

Thanks Jeff.  I shall wait to see if there is someone out there who can give us a hand.

Not yet, but I do believe the ability to move a package is coming in a future release.

Yes, this feature is included  in Cognos8.3 which is supposed to be released in Early Dec 2007 :)

...although this is not official, and is pure rumour and speculation at the moment!

This is not Rumour. I'm 100% sure.

Hi,

The only way you can know this for sure is if you are on the Cognos payroll, and if that's the case, I don't think you will be doing your career prospects much good by pre-announcing release dates and content before Cognos management deems it appropriate.  If you're not a Cognos employee, then you can only pass along what you may have heard from others, which either was passed to you under the terms of a non-disclosure agreement, or else is not from an official Cognos source and cannot be relied upon.  Cognos have not announced any new release dates or content for future releases.

Regards,

MF.

Just to update this slightly, the latest official word from Cognos is that the next release will not be available before 2008.  That's all that's being divulged at this point.
