Hi Gurus,
I am working on dimensional package and come across two function default member and root member.I tried both function on my package and getting the same result (Getting first level from the hierarchy as the output of these two function).
Can any one share their experence what is the differnce between these two function ? or difference between current member and default member?
Thanks in advance.

Hi,

When you build a report based on a cube, and you don't reference a dimension at all in that report, the measures you use still need to be displayed in context for that dimension. What happens is that the defined default member for the dimension is used. This is usually the root member (a single member at the top of the hierarchy) but it doesn't necessarily have to be. Imagine you have a Scenario dimension, with three members - actual, forecast1 and forecast2. These scenario dimensions usually do not have a root member since the scenarios are different "what if" situations that shouldn't be aggregated together. In this case the default member could be "actual" but there may not be a root member.

Thanks MFGF to share your experience.  :)

Just curious to know that whether cube modeller has to define the default member while building the cube or the tool will take care when we define hierarchy.

Can you please share your experience on current member also?

I too was wondering how, in Transformer or in Cube Designer (I haven't worked with DMR) the default member and root member are defined.
