Hi

Does anyone know what the difference is between a production install vs a non-production install ?

THanks

One is installed in your production environment, which usually has some restrictions on who may access or update it.

The other is not installed in your production environment, and probably has fewer restrictions.

How's that?  ;D

Seriously, what are you trying to figure out? You've just asked the difference between a police car and your personal automobile.

Ok, let me expand on this. I dont believe you have attempted to install Cognos 10.2.2. There is a new option that asks whether you want to perform a production install or a non-production install.

I want to know what is the difference ?

Thanks

Andrew Weiss

There doesn't seem to be any explanation in any of the install guides on the impact of the new "Production" vs. "Non-Production" option in the install wizard.  After doing some new installs I didn't see any obvious configuration differences either.  My current best guess is that it's for when IBM comes knocking to audit licenses.

This page seems to reference a "Non-Production License" as a type of license. So that would support this assumption.

I am sorry if I came across as flippant. And you are right, I have not installed 10.2.2 and so have not seen it.

I think Andrew Weiss has it, as we definitely have "non-production" licensing for our dev/test environments. They show on your IBM licensing as "limited use". It is basically much cheaper licensing, so you can more liberally hand out capabilities for development and test purposes. But, you can only use them on non-production boxes.

My understanding is that they are exactly the same, except the "Production" install puts in a flag that the IBM license metric tool (or Endpoint Manager) can recognize.

Cheers!
