Hi,

We have recently upgraded to 10.2.1 and need to use IE 10/11 with Cognos.  Everything seems fine and works in Compatibility Mode ( from the browser) on our desktops, however, when our clients try to remotely connect to a virtual machine to test Cognos with IE 11, the Report Studio icon does not launch nor does the Report Studio and Analysis links work from the menu in Cognos Connection.  The Query Studio link works and everything else seems to be working properly.

We have compared all the security settings in the browser from our desktop and the VM's.  Compatibility Mode is on and pop-up blockers etc.   The version of Java installed on the Virtual Machine is the latest - SE 8, whereas we have Java version 6 on our desktops. I'm not sure if this matters though.

Has anyone encountered issues such as this with IE 11?  Or, have any advice on how to solve these issues?

Thank you in advance!

As long as you are in compatibility mode IE11 should be fine, as you indicated is the case with your desktops. Java is not relevant.

"... remotely connect ..." means what exactly? RDP? Citrix? Something else? What happens if you try to use the virtual machine?

What exactly happens when you try to access RS or AS? Is there some kind of error message?

Thanks for responding bdbits. Remotely connect..I mean RDP.  I can only RDP to the VM's as well.

When I try to access RS or AS from IE11, there is no error. Nothing happens or launches - it's like a dead link.

I also tried other things within IE 11 and found that when I try to see the F12 Developer tools, only a blank blue section shows up (no tabs etc). So, I'm thinking that perhaps there is something missing on the Virtual Machines with regards to Microsoft updates  or from the install of IE 11.  It's like trying to find a needle in a haystack!

Any thoughts as to how to solve this would be greatly appreciated.

I think talking to your admins about what all has been done to the Windows install or any custom configuration they have done would be the first step. If the developer tools are broken, well I am inclined to think they have a non-standard install on the VMs. So I would talk to whoever takes care of the VM setups first.

I would try Firefox, if possible, since it is also supported. If that works, then at least you know it is something particlar in the IE configuration.

Are these machines locked down in any particular way? e.g. IE policies applied, any browser security add-on or antivirus plug-in, etc.? If they are, I would try to remove any such restrictions or filtering to see if that helped. (If the admins balk, just ask them to do it temporarily while you are testing.) If it still does not work, then I would want to reset everything possible in IE, especially the security zone settings. If it still did not work, I would take a look through the Cognos server logs.

If it still does not work after all of that... I would be inclined to open a ticket with IBM.

Thanks for your advice.  I will give all your suggestions a try and see what I can figure out.  I will post again when/if I get things resolved.
