Hi,

I am looking into tools for:
- Audit ( specially find out if a report is placed in multiple locations)
- Document
- Backup
- Standardize
- Secure
- Update (in bulk)
- Validate
- Able to work with Cognos Connection and TM1.

Online you can find information about MotioPI and Cognos BSP MetaManager

Can someone tell me what the pro's and Con's are? And if their are alternative tools by other parties?

The only other one I am aware of is Envisn, which is used by another Cognos shop here.

Our gracious host makes MetaManager.  8)

Chamopak,

Thank you for posing the question. Although in an effort to not pit two vendors against in each other in a public forum, I prefer not to respond.  You might not get much feedback on this here because Avnet BSP, who makes MetaManager, also owns and maintains this forum. So it might be an awkward topic for some.

It's probably best to just give both a try.  Both vendors have a free download of the software.

Thanks and Good Luck in your investigation.

Thank you for the reply.

I am trying to get the trial version of MetaManager for TM1 but that I am not getting...... I got just the BI version (which I do like btw) but I was specifically looking to see what are the features of the TM1 version

Chamopak,  email me your Metamanager license key directly at Andrew.weiss@avnet.com and I will work with a sales rep to enable the full trial of the TM1 modules (and others) on Monday.   -Andy

Hi Andrew,

I have send you an email.  Thank you in advanced for your help.

Unlike others here who are too afraid to answer, I will. I have used both Motio PI free and Meta Manager free. For our setup Motio was much better.

What I like about Motio PI Free: Quick to load. Easy to deploy to individual admins as it is a desktop software that you connect to your servers. A lot of functionality for a free product. Has saved me countless hours. Lets you save "recipes" for tasks that you find yourself doing repeatedly, then you just load the recipe (I use a recipe for getting a list of user rights and capabilities each day). FREE TECH SUPPORT EVEN FOR THE FREE VERSION (24 hour typical response). Non-pushy sales people.

What I dislike about Motio PI Free: I wish it had all the functionality of PRO (i.e. I wish I got free software ;) ) A.K.A. Nothing!

What I did not like about Meta manager free version: It did not seem to have as much functionality as Motio. The software was not as easy to install. Also Meta Manager was ridiculously slow! For example to do a lookup into our AD users to find access it took about 20 minutes to load the list (compared to 20 seconds with PI).

All in all I would say good try MetaManager, but good is not good enough, go with Motio!

Jsuptic,
Personally I use both. why? because metamanager has some free features Motio PI does not have, and because Motio PI has some free features metamanager does not have.
that being said I really wouldn't declare Motio PI the winner here. because an ideal comparison would be between Motio PI Pro and  the paid version of metamanager. I also believe either could suit you better based on your needs. I tend to use metamanager more compared to motio PI. it has more free stuff available.
