We are currently upgrading the OS for our Cognos 8.4.1 environment and looking to also upgrade the DB's from SQL 2005.  Our DBA's are pushing for SQL 2012, although SQL 2008 is the most current version listed as compatible on IBM's site, for our version of Cognos.

Can anyone confirm that upgrading the DB's to 2012 should not cause any issues?

Do we need to change anything on the Cognos side, as a result of upgrading the databases?

Thank you, in advance, for your feedback.

You may want to look into the compatibility pack.  From what I remember of Planning installs, using a SQL2008 backend required installation of the SQL 2005 compatibility pack.  If that is still true, then you need to see if that functionality is provided or supported on SQL 2012 backends.  There might be a compatibility mode you can set on SQL 2012 to make it work like SQL 2008 in this case.

All of this is speculation only - I've not worked with a planning install in a while so I'm only going from memory.

Thank you!  I'll pass this along to the DBA's to look into.

I welcome any other feedback from people who may have done this scenario, as well.
