what to set in Usage Property for Date ?

Dear Cognos Lovers,
Can we set Date usage property as Attribute in FM? Somewhere I read it is good practice to consider Date column as Identifier.
Could anyone please throw some Light on it. I would be great full if you use simple example for explanation.

Hi,

In practice it will probably make no difference setting date columns to be Attribute vs Identifier. I believe the reason the default usage is set as Identifier is that it is assumed it is a column that will be used in a join to or from a date dimension. Obviously this is not always the case.
