Hi,

We have our cognos 10.2.1 FP1 running fine majority of time, we have been seeing some oracle timeout errors stating "cannot connection to DSN". we have set the oracle session timeout to 60min, but still getting these errors.

Is there any way to set a parameter that keeps the oracle connection live all the time without being unavailable after idle_time out

Appreciate the help

bdbits

We have several Oracle databases here and I do not recall having to do anything at all on the Cognos side to keep a connection "alive". Even if it was dropped, I would think it should reconnect as soon as Cognos wants to connect again.

I am suspicious that perhaps your Oracle DBAs have done something that is incorrectly identifying the Cognos connection as timed out. Have you talked to them about the issue?

Hi bdbits,

I spoke to them but as always everyone says they did not change anything and everything is normal. Se attached

Hi,

The error is coming from Oracle by the looks of things. ORA-02396 is an Oracle message saying that Oracle has timed out the connection - in this case to the Content Store by the looks of things. Usually these timeouts happen as a result of restrictions placed on the user ID used to connect to the database - ie it's Oracle imposing the restriction.

Cheers!
