Error connectiong to ORACLE database with Data Advisor

Hi guys,

I am trying to connect to an Oracle database with Data Advisor and I am getting this Error:


ERROR [HY000] [Oracle][ODBC][Ora]ORA-01406: fetched column value was truncated


I am able to connect to the database using the same ODBC via Cognos Express Manager.

Does anyone else have or had this problem and can help me out?

Hi,

Is there a reason you are using ODBC to connect to Oracle rather than the Oracle Native Client?

I recall there was a bug in Oracle that would result in ORA-01406 errors - might be that?

Hi MFGF,

When I start Data Advisor, it gives me the options:
- My ODBC connections that I have previously Defined
- Excel Files
- MS Access DB
- Browse....

That is the reason I am trying to connect using ODBC :)

Yep - but why did you set the connection up as ODBC in the first place? You could just as easily have set it up as an Oracle Native Client connection in the first place, and then this would be available for you to use in Data Advisor.

Hmmm. Ok - ignore me. It seems you can only use ODBC to connect when using Data Advisor (sigh).

I would expect that it would have other options too, but ..................

Still trying to get it working though.
