Do you have forecast data? If not, what exactly do you mean by forecast reports? Can you explain your requirement?

i have budget and sales data, so i need to predict the sales in next month or year. how can i ?

I think that's a more fundamental question that you need to answer yourself. You can probably calculate the average monthly sales from the data that you've got. I don't know if Cognos can do linear regression calculation to give you an idea of what the sales for next month might be, but that doesn't really help since there are so many variables to take into account.

My suggestion would be to feed the forecast data into Cognos and report it from there. How you calculate your forecast is whole other question. Depending on the volume of data it could range from  a manual feed from your sales department/function, through to a fully seasonal forecast created by something like Manugistics.

On what basis are you making the prediction? It sounds like you might have a use case for Predictive Analytics? One of the new licenses in the revised license structure IBM announced last year was the Forward Looking Buisness Intelligence Architect - this includes a copy of SPSS Modeler which allows predictive models to be built and used on your data and the results delivered back into your database to allow you to report on them. Might be worth you looking into this?
