Hi All,

What are "interactive activities" and how are they 'created' ?

Somtime we see a lot off them with run by "unknown" and they are slowing down our system.
When we delete them, the system is running fine again, but we want to know what's causing the "interactive activities".

When you go to Cognos Administration, in the first tab you can select "interactive activities".
During the day, I see some come and go, but sometimes the are staying there, and when we get to much off them, the system is slowing down (or crashing...)

Kind Regards,

Those are probably users doing adhoc queries. The longer running ones causing system slowdowns would be inefficient queries.  ;D

If a user is logged in and clicks on a report and chooses to run it "live" in their browser, this is listed as an interactive activity - they are running the report interactively. The user has to wait for the report to run and render and they are unable to do other things in their browser until it does so. If a user clicks on the "run with options" button next to a report and chooses "Save the report", the report is run in batch (as a background activity) and the user is returned back to Cognos Connection and can continue to do other things while it runs.
