Hi all,

we are planning to do an upgrade from cognos 8.4 to 10.2.1. have some queries related to the fix pack installation.

1) is it necessary to install fix pack ?

2) can i directly install the latest fix pack FP 5 ?

3) at what stage should we install the fix pack? would it be recommended to install it after we complete all the settings in cognos configuration such as URL configurations,AD mapping,Content store mapping, Notification, audit log config ? or it should be done before this ?

Request you to guide me with the query related to fix pack installation.

Regards

Hi,

1. It's not strictly necessary, no, but quite a number of defects have been rectified since the initial release of 10.2.1, plus IBM added some new features in the fix packs too - largely enhancements to Dynamic Cubes. If you can get FP5 installed, I would suggest it's a good idea.

2. Yes you can install FP5 directly over the initial release, and you will automatically get everything in the prior fix packs and interim fixes installed as part of FP5.

3. I would install the fix pack immediately after installing GA 10.2.1, then configure the instance after this (ie run the GA install but do not configure, run the FP5 update over the top of this, then go into Cognos Configuration and configure, save and start the instance). Don't forget to run the 32-bit version of FP5 on any machines with Framework Manager/Cube Designer installed, too (and don't forget to configure these once the 10.2.1 instance is up and running).

Cheers!
