Just Upgraded to 10.2.2 and now Query Users Role lost Query Studio Functionality

We just upgraded from 10.2 to 10.2.2 and all my users who have the Query User role no longer can use Query Studio.  There was no issue in 10.2 and in 10.2.2 Authors as well as Administrators don't have this problem.  The issue is, they can open Query Studio and select a package.  They can drag data items from the package onto the work area and data populates.  However none of the tool bar icons work nor does any right click functionality.  When pressing the tool bar icons you can see the icon get pushed in, but nothing happens.  As mentioned Authors and Admins don't have this issue, only Query Users in the Cognos Namespace.  We have looked at capabilites and roles and they are identical from our 10.2 environment.  Anyone else experience this?  Also we are using IE 9 and Windows 7 in both 10.2 and 10.2.2 environments.  Thanks

This might be a completely insane suggestion, but have you cleared your browser cache after the upgrade? The UI in 10.2.2 is significantly revised, and if your browser is using old, cached stuff from 10.2 it can give some bizarre results.

I've seen weird things between Cognos and IE.
Is that user using a different version of IE? Maybe try upgrading it?
Might be a bit of a hail mary ...

Found out it is a bug and IBM has opened a defect APAR.  The workaround for now is to grant the users Express Author role as well as the Query User role.

But giving Express Author access also allows users to use Workspace Advanced, correct? We're trying to limit that for the time being as we start to roll out 10.2.2.

jguevin

That's correct it does give them access to Workspace Advanced.  We only have a couple users, so easy to maintain.

Anyone got a work-around that doesn't enable Workspace Advanced?

We found this issue in our test environment and it has halted our rollout to live because we have not deployed WSA to any users yet (and don't want to until we have documentation and training collateral ready).

I have escalated to our support partner and IBM account manager, so I will advise if I get any feedback.

There isn't one, from what I can tell. Your best bet is to log a PMR with IBM, and get your IBM contact to escalate the PMR (you will need to give them the PMR number once it has been logged).

Good luck!

For anyone reading this post, we received a hotfix from IBM which has resolved this issue.  The hotfix was for the APAR linked previously in this thread.  I would encourage you to see this hotfix from IBM.

There are two interim fix packs for 10.2.2 listed on IBM's site, neither of them mention this issue.  Which one did you install?

edit: Ok, I assume neither and you must have obtained a hotfix directly from support?  Have you installed a hotfix and did it fix the issue?

I searched for fixes related to that APAR and nothing comes up there either so I assume they haven't published this yet.  This is a huge bug if you have query studio users b/c it basically renders the interface useless.

Hi,

I don't think either of the current Interim Fixes addresses this issue. The hotfix FateAccompli was referring to is something else - you will need to have a PMR open with IBM for this specific issue and request the hotfix from them to get it. I assume it will be included in an upcoming Interim Fix or Fix Pack, so will be available for all at some point :)

I see they just posted a third fix pack for 10.2.2.  Do you know if those fix packs are cumulative?  I.E. does fix pack 3 contain what was in 1 and 2?  I can't find any documentation on exactly what issues these fix packs resolve.

Hi,

Just to clarify, there are no Fix pack releases for Cognos 10.2.2 as of today (25th March 2015). What has just been added to Fixcentral is Interim Fix 3. The details seem to suggest it addresses security vulnerabilities:

http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg24039563

I think Interim Fixes need to be installed in order (ie they are not necessarily cumulative). It's certainly safer to do this than to assume that IF3 contains everything in IF2 and IF1.

Fix packs are different. When fix packs are released, they are cumulative, so when FP2 is released it will contain everything that was in FP1 plus more (bearing in mind that this will be true at some point in future when 10.2.2 fix packs are available).

Cheers!

Ok - thanks.  We are still testing 10.2.2 in a test environment so I think I am going to wait a while until they hopefully release an actual fix pack then before we try to put it in production.

FYI to anyone else having this issue -

10.2.2 Fixpack 1 was released.  I installed it and it has resolved this Query studio issue.
Timing is everything.
