Hi All,

We have a requirement to do dashboard to dashboard drill through in Cognos Workspace, cognos version we are using is 10.2.1 and browser is IE 9. Basically we are doing drill on Employee Name, when I click on Employee Name then it will get redirected to other report, in the URL it displays the child report name, instead we want selected 'Employee Name' in the URL. Is it feasible. Finally, we will apply this functionality in dashboard to dashboard drill through. Why we basically wanted this is, if we click on multiple employee names then multiple windows get opened and user will not know, which window belongs to which employee. To avoid the confusion to user, we want the selected employee name in the URL. Can we achieve this in Cognos?

Can some one please provide some suggestion, is there any way of achieving the above requirement.

Thanks & Regards,
XYZ

If you are worried about confusion, why not just open the report in the same window? They can then hit the back button to select another employee.

I don't think most users even look at a URL, to be honest. And if you add something to the URL outside what is documented as a valid parameter, you risk whatever you come up with breaking something in the future.

Wouldn't you just display the data that you drilled on in the header (for example) of the report?

Thanks for the reply bdbits and BigChris.

bdbits, but actually I am not running the report in report studio html viewer. Actually I am looking the result in Cognos Workspace dashboard. In the drill through definition even though I did not select open the report in new window in report studio, it is not working in work space. As you suggested, if I can't open the workspace dashboard in the same window, then my onsite counterpart wanted to display the name of the selected employee in the URL, so that it will avoid confusion of which window belongs to which employee, if multiple windows are opened. I understand your suggestion that displaying the employee name in the URL is risking the user information, even though if any such option exist. Can you please suggest?

BigChris, actually I am displaying the employee information in the child dashboard header, my onsite counter part is not satisfied with it.
